07. Food Vendors

At Soul Real Market, we also highlight food businesses in addition to our other vendors. At the moment, Soul Real Market San Diego is the primary market hosting food vendors, with our dedicated Food Alley! We are proud to host and feature a diverse range of cuisines at our events. Here is a quick breakdown as a Food Vendor.

DISCLAIMER: This page summarizes public information from the San Diego government for Soul Real Market food vendors. For full regulations and official details, please refer directly to the San Diego government website.

To prepare and sell food for Soul Real Market events, food vendors are required to have the following health permits:

  • Certificate of Insurance (COI)

  • Harmless Agreement Form (HHA)

2. Food Alley Setup

Soul Real Market San Diego has a dedicated Food Alley; please refer to your acceptance letter for event-specific details and instructions from the Soul Real Market team.

Your set up depends on the type of food you sell. If you are selling premade food such as baked goods, a table or 10 x 10 booth space will work perfectly. For food truck vendors, venue specific details will be included in your acceptance emails.

For canopies, please ensure it is fire-retardant and that you use canopy weights (minimum 20-25 lbs per leg). Please refer to 01. Equipment for more insight.

3. Fire Safety

According to San Diego's mobile food vendor guidelines, food vendors are advised to take fire safety into account. For vendors who are operating deep fryers, stove, or heavy grease cooking equipment, a Class K extinguisher is mandatory.

4. Hygiene and Sanitations

San Diego health standards require food trucks to have a designated handwashing area prior to food prep. Additionally, having cleaning supplies such as chlorine, sanitizing solution with test strips need to be on hand for food contact surfaces.

5. Equipment, Power, and Utilites

All food vendors are required to bring their own equipment.

  • Electricity: Power access varies by event venue. If on-site power is provided, specify outlet limits with the Soul Real team in advance.

  • Generators: Quiet generators only. Loud construction generators are prohibited in the Food Alley.

  • Extension Cords: Commercial heavy duty extension cords are required. Cords running across walkways must be covered with heavy rubber cord ramps.

6. Waste & Trash Management

Soul Real Market has a zero dumping policy - pouring grease, oil, or wastewater into storm drains, dirt, or public trash bins will not be tolerated. Vendors must haul out all liquids off-site.

Food vendors must have at least one customer facing trash bin at their booth. Trash from food prep must be packed out or disposed in event dumpsters at the end of the event.
